Pittsburg, Ks – day 37

We arrived in Kansas, I got through Missouri with 527 miles, and over 1600 so far.
The mountains are behind us today, I think.

But first, take yourself back to Day 25, May 29 at Dixon Springs. A local bicycle fan dropped by the camp ground to tell us about a rail to trail at Big Hill. I took this video as I was biking up to the entrance. It is why we bike to adventure.

But back to today. I slept very well despite the fact that my cot broke in the middle and my butt was on the floor but my head and feet were up. I liked it, I inflated my air mattress and slept like a puppy with 8 other people in this building in the city park.
We were out early because we had 70 miles to do.
Our first stop wasn’t until Golden City, Mo, at mile 35. We got there after 10:30 and I enjoyed a hamburger and cocoanut creme pie at the famous ” Cookie’s Cafe”
We signed the biker journals and reviewed the names ahead of us.

The temperature was over 88 degrees when we pulled into town. we pulled into the Super 8 and showered and I ran down to the laundry to wash everything, it was another 5 miles of biking, but it was worth it. My lovely wife had talked the manager of the motel into buying a birthday cake and gave it to me when I signed in.
Then we went to a Chillis restaurant for a big rib eye steak. A full day, and tomorrow it is our first full day out of 8 in Kansas is going to be hot.

Good night and thanks for the birthday wishes!
